7 • Textiles Art and Design

This course will explore the various aspects of textiles and learn how art and design within textiles impacts our daily lives. Students will use their learned knowledge in identifying and in the treatment of specific materials to become more aware of textiles role globally. Students wil alsol become confident in  their use of a few technological applications.

Term 1 - Your Hand at Fabrics
    • Talk, discuss and explore man made fabrics and natural fabrics.
    • becoming aware of fibre and fabric construction techniques
    • understanding and employing textile care and maintenance

 

Term 2 - What We "See" 
    • understanding the relationship between clothing choices and personal expression.
    • exploring personal expression with textiles (embellishments)
    • taking a look at the textiles industry and making good consumer choices

Term 3 - Mastering your technique
    • practice by hand: needle and thread techniques
    • learn basics sewing machine techniques -  threading, basic sewing
    • Final Project- to be discussed and determined

 

 

Assessments:
Throughout the year students will be evaluated with a variety of assessment tools. The assessment tools may include but are not limited to: self assessments, oral presentations, written analysis or reflections, projects and classroom discussions ( group and individual). All major project directions will come with a concise group or teacher constructed rubric.

Duotang or small three ring binder
Pen/Pencil


Student/Classroom Expectations

• arrive prepared and on time (if you missed a class please be sure to keep your work up to date.)

• we are responsible for our own materials.- come to class prepared! :)

• we are to respect all equipment and treat it carefully to ensure good health and safety practice

• we are all responsible for a good clean up and proper storage to ensure safety.
